Classical curriculum

“States and school districts should reject any curriculum that promotes one-sided partisan opinions, activist propaganda, or factional ideologies that demean America’s heritage, dishonor our heroes, or deny our principles.”

An Exceptional Classical Curriculum

Authentic education is not "value-neutral" but includes moral teachings that explain the standards for right and wrong. The truth that equality and liberty belong by nature to every human being without exception must be taught as the basis of civic friendship, economic opportunity, citizenship, and political freedom. Such an education can form free men and free women, self-reliant and responsible persons.

At our drop-off academy, we offer three days of classical literature, math, history, and science as well as other critical subjects that fulfill NYS educational requirements and help prepare lives that are truly free. ASA seeks to build up a healthy, united citizenry, by rejecting false teachings and fashionable ideologies. Our halls echo America’s story as one of imperfection but also unprecedented achievement.

“Law and liberty cannot rationally become the objects of our love...
unless they first become the objects of our knowledge.”

Common Core

We learned from the failed Common Core experiment that one-size-fits-all national models are faulty and neglectful. Significant federal funding was spent to entice states to adopt Common Core. Nevertheless, within a few years it became clear that students suffered significantly lower academic performance as a result. At American Seekers Academy, our content is appropriately challenging and contains time-tested, stimulating material that is concise, engaging and classical in orientation.

Academy

Our academy offers small classroom sizes taught by experts in their fields. Each week, mentors may supply parents with bonus homeschooling material so they can learn along with their children. Below you will find a list of some of the curated curriculums used at our academy.

Classes Offered

Our class line up have great options for customizing a learning schedule to suit their children’s unique interests and give them the opportunity to go deeper into a subject. We offer courses in the following categories: PHILOSOPHY including works such as Aristotle’s Ethics and Plato’s Republic, ECONOMICS by the popular series, Tuttle Twins, BOTANY, WOODWORKING, LOGIC & RHETORIC, and LATIN.

Literacy Essentials

The curriculum is a comprehensive literacy program for grades K-3 that combines the sound linguistic theory of an Orton-based literacy program, a scientific backed approach that involves breaking reading and spelling down into smaller skills involving letters and sounds, and then building on these over time. Literacy Essentials employs a phonics-based spell-to-read method with instruction in both manuscript and cursive handwriting.

Classic children’s literature teaches readers how to seek meaning in the world and unifying traits in human nature. Our literacy courses will explore examples of the best children’s literature, including Aesop’s Fables, Beauty and the Beast, The Snow Queen, and The Wind in the Willows.

American History

History is the single most manipulated subject in schools and that is why ASA has chosen the Hillsdale 1776 Curriculum that focuses on an accurate account of civics, key to forming good citizens. The Hillsdale 1776 Curriculum teaches American history, civics, and government to K-12 students. Students who study using this curriculum learn about American history from the colonies through the Civil War at four different times during their K-12 years, each time increasing in depth. The curriculum also includes American history since the Civil War and American government and civics for both middle and high school students. This curriculum “seeks to cultivate in students the knowledge and virtue necessary to live good lives as citizens.”

Our electives offer other history curriculums as well including a favorite among young patriots, the Tuttle Twins History, also a course on the book, Red, White and Black, a collection of the most prominent and respected black scholars and thinkers telling the true story of black Americans in all its complexity. Other books students will have the chance to learn from are The Land of Hope, We Still Hold These Truths, Federalist Papers, Hayek’s Constitution of Liberty and Thomas Paine’s Common Sense & The Rights of Man.

Science

ASA uses the best science curriculums to produce Chemistry, Biology and Physics programs that include hands on experiment kits and a student notebook to retain the year’s lessons. We want our students not only to be able to master the study of chemistry, but also ask the larger questions like “how does this relate to non-scientific matters in life?” Our students will seek out the intelligent design around them using scientific and reasoning skills they will acquire.

Math

Faithful to Greek ideals, classical mathematics are studied in four main categories referred to as the quadrivium: arithmetic, music, geometry, and astronomy. For daily usefulness, the Singapore math method is uniquely effective. Some of the key features of this approach are CPA (Concrete, Pictorial, Abstract) progression, number bonds, bar modeling, and mental math.

Classical mathematics, as a language, helps students develop reasoning skills and promotes an understanding of order and harmony in the universe. Our core math curriculum uses dimensions math for K-12 and courses that deepen learning such as, Euclid’s Elements, Sacred Geometry, Harmonics and Astronomy will be available through our electives.
